Mark Griskey – Biography
Mark Griskey has composed music for numerous video games, motion picture trailers, and television promos. Mark began composing music for motion picture trailers and television promos in the early 1990s. His proven track record includes a long list of credits for such clients as 20th Century Fox, Columbia Pictures, DreamWorks S.K.G., MGM Studios, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Warner Brothers, Disney, Universal Pictures, Touchstone, Lions Gate Films, Miramax Films, and New Line Cinema. In the mid 90's Mark branched out into the world of interactive media, composing music for Atom Shockwave Corporation.
In 2001 Mark began scoring video games for LucasArts Entertainment. His credits include Jedi Starfighter, Gladius, Star Wars: The Revenge of the Sith, and several tracks on the "Best Of LucasArts Original Soundtrack." This CD was awarded "Best Game Music Soundtrack Album of the Year" by the Game Audio Network Guild. His final project as a staff composer for LucasArts Entertainment was Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords, Mark’s first feature length score utilizing full orchestra.
In 2005 Mark decided the time was right to pursue a freelance career, He left LucasArts in March 2005 and quickly landed his first freelance video game project: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Mark went on to score 2 more titles for Disney: Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End, and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, as well as several titles for Ubisoft Entertainment, Sega and The Force Unleashed for LucasArts
The Majority of Mark’s scores feature live orchestra and he has worked with some of the finest orchestra’s in the world, including the London Philharmonia, The Seattle Synphonia, The Slovak National Orchestra, and the Sky Walker Symphony. In 2006 some of Mark’s music was featured in a sold out live performance of video game music in Leipzig Germany.
In addition to his symphonic background Mark has also established a reputation scoring and producing Hybrid acoustic/electronic music. His Scores for Sega’s Iron Man, and The Incredible Hulk feature heavy guitars, contemporary grooves, and ethnic percussion along with live orchestra. His trailer music for such blockbuster films The Lord Of The Rings, SpiderMan, and The Incredible Hulk feature heavy guitars, tribal percussion, driving synthesizers and atmospheric sound design elements. Mark is always striving to challenge himself musically and find new creative approaches to expressing his musical vision.
Mark Graduated from California State University with a B.M in Music, and studied composition and film scoring privately and at UCLA. Mark is also an accomplished classical percussionist and jazz drummer.
Mark currently resides in Northern California. His latest hobby’s include; playing the electric bass, photography and talking to friends on the Internet.
